Whaddup, Los and Lettes?! How the fuck are ya? I’m sitting here bumping the new “Marvelous Missing Link (FOUND)” album with a big ass dopey smile on my face. Not only is this Joker’s Card now one of my personal favorites in the entire Psychopathic Records discography (“Time” is one of the best songs Violent J has ever written. End of story.) but I’m still high—if a bit tired—from the devastating flavor that went on last week at the 16th annual Gathering of the Juggalos at Legend Valley in Thornville, OH. This really WAS the Year of the Juggalo and no one can dispute that! Not only was there just a positive feeling of family love in the air but man…HOW FUCKING SICK WAS THAT GATHERING LINEUP? Can I get a Whoop Whoop??! More flavor than a Baskin fuckin Robbins, people!! Almost every single performer—even those who initially met with some skepticism—turned it the fuck out…and told all of us backstage how they couldn’t wait to come back and perform at a future Gathering! To hear that from the ninjas in Flosstradamus, In This Moment, Dope DOD, Puddle of Mudd and all these true musical luminaries was just fresh as fuck and felt like a true pat on the back after we all worked so hard to make GOTJ 2015 one of the best Gatherings ever!
First of all, MAD LOVE AND PROPS TO THE DON MEGA HIMSELF … Jumpsteady! Right now that ninja is currently getting his nerdy on at the dope gaming convention GenCon. He’s probably rolling a D20 right now and scoring a critical hit against some unfortunate bugbear or minotaur. He has earned the right to have some R&R because Jumpsteady is the main ninja who coordinates the Gathering. All the bands who played this year? Jumpsteady is the man to thank. He personally booked every band, made sure we had porta-potties, food vendors, rides, etc. The Gathering would not BE the Gathering without Jumpsteady, so please give that ninja a dap or a hug whenever you see him.
Props go out to everyone who schooled the Gathering—Mean Dean, who served as Jumpsteady’s right-hand-man for the entire week (and as a result didn’t sleep a fuckin wink) ; Natalie, Megan, Wojo and everyone who worked 12 hour shifts selling tickets; Ominous and N-Cubed who held down the Info Tent; the main Godfather himself Billy Bill, who coordinated all the sound, oversaw the construction of ICP’s devastating new stage set, and made sure all the bands looked and sounded dope as hell. So much effort and so much heart goes into the Gathering and we thank every ninja who schooled it to make it the ultimate family reunion for us Juggalos.
Doing a full Gathering recap would take too long and I have to get back to work on a million other projects, including Young Wicked’s upcoming album, The Riddle Box special edition, and I need to get a hold of DJ Paul to get the artwork for his new album that’s dropping on Psychopathic on October 30. But first, let me address a few quick things related to the 2015 Gathering. Like for instance, the ticket booth. OK, I know a lot of y’all were tripping at how long and messy the line to the ticket booth was. WE DIDN’T LIKE IT EITHER! Next year, we’re hoping to have two separate box office trailers going to ensure that ninjas can get in faster. I think we’d all agree though—once you got inside the grounds, the wait had been worth it, right? Next year we shouldn’t have that issue.
Also, to those of you who caught the performance from the legendary Danny KAE…how amazing was that?! After a killer introduction from our homie KG, Danny rocked the Fun House stage with his own inimitable style of hip-hop and he damn near brought the whole tent down. Since Danny KAE was such an inspiration to ICP back in the early days, it was truly a surreal experience having him live and in person at the Gathering. Almost every rapper who comes from Detroit hip hop cites Danny as an influence—Eminem, Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker, you name ‘em. He’s a living fuckin legend and we can’t believe we tracked him down and got him to the Gathering! Mad clown love, Danny!
All the bands we booked at the Gathering killed it, but special shout outs go out to Flosstradamus, Puddle of Mudd, Wacka Flocka Flame, and my personal highlight…In This Moment. Man oh MAN…how amazing was their set? I bought their latest album this morning at Best Buy when I popped in to make sure they had the new ICP album in stock (they did!) and fuuuuuuuuuck! Their shit is so dope. The last female metal singer who could command a stage like In This Moment’s lead singer was the late, great Wendy O. Williams from The Plasmatics (look her up on YouTube if that name doesn’t ring a bell. You’ll thank me later.). In other band flavor, KG is still teasing me for dancing my ass off on the side of the stage when Puddle of Mudd did their devastating cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter.” Jagger would’ve approved! SO FUCKING GREAT! I forgot just now much ass Puddle of Mudd really kicks until that took over that Big Top Stage.
And Juggalos, we’re already starting to work on the almighty 17th Gathering, which will go down next year. And yes, we’re going to try our best to get Die Antwoord there. Zef culture and Juggalo culture go together perfectly and Ninja and Yo Landi would fucking RIP IT UP at the Gathering. So we’re working on it now! There’s a lot of pressure on us to top the flavor of this year’s Gathering…but we accept the challenge.
OK, fam, I gotta get back to work—my email box is blowing the fuck up. Thanks again for a dope ass 16th Annual Gathering of the Juggalos and thank you for being a part of my family. Go get that new Missing Link (FOUND) flavor if you haven’t already! Peace and mad clown love!
